by jbwire on December 27, 2011

P0sixninja from Chronic Dev Team has released a Cydia tool “Corona” to untether jailbreak iOS 5.0.1. Corona uses the exploit discovered by Pod2g to untether jailbreak all A4 devices running on iOS 5.x. Corona also yet does not support iPhone 4S and iPad 2.

Chronic Dev Team is still testing the updated greenpois0n tool, which also works on Pod2g’s iOS 5.0.1 exploit and soon be releasing the tool. For installing Corona you should have a jailbroken device and follow the steps below to untether jailbreak:

Supported Devices for iOS 5.0.1 untether jailbreak:

  • iPhone3GS
  •  iPhone4
  •  iPhone4-CDMA
  •  iPad1
  •  iPod touch 3G
  •  iPod touch 4G

How To Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 Untethered

Step 1: You must have a jailbroken iPhone 4, 3GS, iPod touch running iOS 5. If you haven’t jailbroken your device yet, you can use redsn0w, sn0wbreeze or Ac1dsn0w tool.

Step 2: Now go to Cydia and update it until finished.

Step 3: Under BigBoss repository, search for “Corona 5.0.1 Untether”. Doenload and install the package by pressing the install button on the top right of the screen.

Step 4: Once done, just reboot your device.

Your device is now untethered jailbreak on iOS 5.x. This package will allow your 5.0.1 device to install pod2g’s untethered exploits and reboot without requiring an external tool like redsn0w or sn0wbreeze, and without having to restore your device (so you get to keep all your apps, contacts, etc).

Alternatively, iPhone Dev Team has also released the Redsn0w 0.9.10b1 for iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak. Redsn0w 0.9.10b1 also works on the same exploit as Corona by Pod2g. Just connect to us on FacebookTwitter, and Google+ for further updates.
