AssistantConnect Cydia Tweak For Siri On iPhone 4, iPad [No Proxy Req.]

by jbwire on February 16, 2012

AssistantConnect and AssistantConnect4S is the new set of tweaks available in Cydia, which can now install Siri on older devices without using any proxy. These tweaks need an iPhone 4S to get the certificate and then that cert file can be used by Spire tweak installed on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 2 and first generation iPad to run Siri on them with no requirement of third party proxy servers.

To install Siri on non iPhone 4S devices, first AssistantConnect4S tweak must be installed on iPhone 4S which downloads all the required data from the iPhone 4S for Siri and the authenticated certificate then can be emailed. This file is to be then downloaded to the older device to get Siri feature on that device.

You must have a jailbroken device to install Siri using AssistantConnect & AssistantConnect4S. If you have not yet jailbroken your device, you can use Absinthe 0.4 for iPad 2 and Redsn0w for iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G. You also must have Spire install in your devices using the guides here for iPad 2 and iPhone. You can find the guide here to install Spire on your devices. Both AssistantConnect4S and AssistantConnect cydia tweaks should be downloaded which are available for free download in Cydia under bigboss repo.

How to install Siri on Non iPhone 4S Devices Using AssistantConnect and AssistantConnect4S:

Step 1: Once Spire is installed on your idevcie, make sure to Siri is enabled. You can simply goto Settings > General > and enable Siri.
Step 2: Install downloaded AssistantConnect4S app on an iPhone 4S device, open the AssistantConnect4S app, and reboot your iPhone 4S.
Step 3: Now Open AssistantConnect4S, and then invoke Siri and tap the “Email Siri Data” button, and email the data to the iPhone 4, or other non 4S device. This step will download all the required data in the cert file. Make sure the attachment file is not empty by checking the file size, which should not be zero.
Step 4: Now install AssistantConnect on the older idevice which needs Siri working.
Step 5: On this older device, open the email sent from the iPhone 4S with the attachment, and open the attachment. You will see an option “Open in AssistantConnect“, click on this option.
Step 6: You will see a dialogue saying “File Copied” and “AssistantConnect File Loaded Successfully”. Now, just go to the HomeScreen by clicking dismiss. Now respring or reboot your device.
Step 7: You are all done. Now hold your Home button to invoke Siri. It should work just like on an iPhone 4S.

Note: The authentication data will expire after 24h and you will need to send the authentication data from your iPhone 4S every 24 hours.

Alternatively, if you are unable to find the tweaks in Cydia list or bigboss repo, you can simply download AssistantConnect4S .deb file and AssistantConnect .deb file and install it on respective devices via iFile or OpenSSH.

Those who are facing issues with this method and do not want to install Siri like this, can use the alternate cydia apps Sara and Evi which are quite successful for getting Siri-like features on older devices.  Those who don’t have jailbroken device or don’t want to jailbreak their device to get Siri can install Speaktoit in App store which does not require any jailbreak. All these apps do not require any third party server and provides Siri like functionality for older devices.
