Step 1: Make a backup of your device in iTunes by right clicking on your iPad 3 name under the ‘Devices’ menu and click ‘Back Up’.

Step 2: Once your backup is complete return to your device and go to Settings – General – Reset – Erase all Content and Settings. This will make the jailbreak process much faster. [Note: Please do *not* try to "reset all device and settings" if you're already tethered JB! In which case you should be installing it via Cydia)]

Step 3: Unzip the downloaded absinthe-mac-2.0.dmg / absinthe-win-2.0.zip on desktop.

Step 4: You will find the Absinthe.app in the unzipped folder. To launch the application, click on the application icon, you will see a popup window where the “jailbreak” button will be disabled, if your iPad is not connected to Mac/ Pc.

Step 5: Before proceeding, connect your iPad 2, 3 or the iPad 1 with the Mac / windows PC via USB cable.

Step 6: After connecting you will notice the “Jailbreak” button enabled in the Absinthe window.

Step 7: Now, click on the “Jailbreak” button to start the jailbreak process on your device.

Due to the large file size, it may take some time, be patient and let the Absinthe do its job.

Be careful not to unplug your device.

The iPhone will restart automatically; don’t touch the device as it takes a little long.

Absinthe v2.0 will prepare jailbreak data.

After the process is completed, an cydia icon will be visible on your home screen. Now your iPad 3 is successfully jailbroken on iOS 5.1.1 with Absinthe.

Step 8: Once jailbroken return to iTunes and restore your backup from earlier. Right click on your device name under the ‘Devices’ menu in the left panel of iTunes and click ‘Restore from Back Up…’ then select the latest backup you created before. Getting “wait process to complete..”? Perform a clean restore on your iOS device via iTunes. Then jailbreaking your device again using Absinthe 2.0 and it should work without any errors…

Update 26.05.2012: Some are having issues with the Windows version, so here is a potential fix.

Error – “Recovery completed. If you want to retry jailbreaking, unplug your device and plug it back in” Fix:

      1. Backup your device

      2. Restore your device and DO NOT unlock your device after the restore

      3. Set it up as a new iPhone/iPad/iPod

      3. Let it finish syncing/setting up

      4. Open Absinthe and jailbreak

      5. Now you can also restore from backup
