AT&T has started the new service to unlock iPhone devices for users who have completed their contract with them from 8th April. As discovered and revealed by famous hacker Grant Paul (aka Chpwn), Apple is the one who is actually unlocking the iPhones not AT&T. AT&T just takes the request from the users and submits it to Apple. If you have eligible to get your device unlocked with AT&T then here is the complete process by which you can unlock your iPhone.
Methods to Officially Unlock iPhone on AT&T
- You have three options through AT&T to unlock your device. Firstly, you can go to the AT&T store and contact any store representative.
- Secondly, you can go to the AT&T’s online chat on their website and it takes few minutes to submit your request. You just need to provide the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMWI) of your iPhone, which can be found under Settings>General>About of your device.
- Lastly, you can call customer care at 1-800-331-0500 or 611 from your iPhone for assistance in unlocking your iPhone. Representatives are available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. local time, or Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time.
AT&T Unlock iPhone Process
Once, your request for unlock is submitted on online chat, Apple will be providing the unlock code. The unlock code will be mailed to your email address within next 72 hours. The company would be verifying your account history to proper contract completion or termination due to amount clearance.
Soon after you receive the unlock code, you need to take backup of your device. Now you have to restore and tether your device with iTunes. This completes your unlock process. If you have multiple devices for unlocking, then you need to submit the request to the customer care and Apple provides maximum of 5 unlock code for an account.
Starting today, you can avail this facility to unlock your iPhone from AT&T and use it on other GSM networks like T-Mobile.
